W. Barry Bryant

Founder

Mr. Bryant graduated from Virginia Tech in 1970 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.  He has over fifty years of experience in the transportation construction industry, beginning his career in 1971 as a Field Engineer with McDowall & Wood, Inc. and then advancing to Vice President where he was responsible for construction management. Founding Bryant Contracting, Inc. in 1984, he evolved the company from its original focus on bridge repairs and incidental concrete construction to building major heavy/highway structures throughout Central and Eastern Virginia.  In 2016, Mr. Bryant started Bryant Structures, Inc. and established key employees from Bryant Contracting, Inc. as leaders so that the company and employees could prosper long after his retirement. Mr. Bryant has served our industry as President of the Virginia Road and Transportation Builders Association in 2000 and as a member and chairperson of the VDOT-VRTBA Bridge and Structures Subcommittee for over 20 years.

Douglas W. Jackson, CPC

President

Since 1998, Mr. Jackson has been responsible for managing Bryant ’s construction services from estimating through project completion. He has over 30 years of transportation construction industry experience including estimating, scheduling, project management, contract administration, asset management, and operations management. Mr. Jackson has served on the Contractor Leadership Committee of the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance since 2013. A Certified Professional Constructor, he is a 1986 graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. degree in Building Construction.

Alan P. Smith, CPA

Chief Financial Officer

Since 1988, Alan has managed accounting, finance, taxes, employment benefits, risk management, contracts, and bonding. A licensed Certified Public Accountant, he is a graduate of Wake Forest University.

Brett T. Shankles, P.E.

Vice President-Project Manager

Mr. Shankles joined Bryant in 2003 and has served in roles from field operations to project management including planning, scheduling, construction operations, and design engineering services.  He holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. A registered Professional Engineer, Mr. Shankles currently serves on the VDOT-VTCA Structure and Bridge Subcommittee.

Ryan D. Carson, CPC

Vice President-General Superintendent

Mr. Carson graduated from Virginia Tech in 2003 with a B.S. degree in Building Construction. Since joining Bryant shortly after graduation, Ryan has served the company in numerous roles, steadily advancing from Field Engineer to his current role as Project Superintendent, managing personnel and equipment to successfully complete heavy/highway projects safely, on time, and under budget. Mr. Carson became a Certified Professional Constructor in 2011.

Anthony M. DiTommaso, P.E.

Project Superintendent

Mr. DiTommaso joined Bryant in 2007 and has served the company in several roles, progressing from Field Engineer to his current role as Project Superintendent, managing personnel and equipment to successfully complete heavy/highway projects safely, on time, and under budget. A registered Professional Engineer, Anthony is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering.

Kevin C. Kewer, P.E.

Construction Engineer

Since joining Bryant in 2009, Mr. Kewer has served the company in numerous roles, advancing from Field Engineer to his current role as Construction Engineer which encompasses estimating, scheduling, pre-construction planning, contract administration, and project management assistance. A registered Professional Engineer, he is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering.
