The Mattaponi River Bridge Replacement Project is the first of two projects that will replace two swing span bridges with modern four lane bridges through the Town of West Point. As a replacement for the Lord Delaware Bridge, which carried Route 33 over the Mattaponi River, the project is an integral part of relieving major traffic bottlenecks for rail, river barge, and vehicular traffic traveling between I-64 and Route 17, while complementing community efforts to revitalize this essential business corridor. Overcoming strict environmental challenges involving the Chesapeake Bay watershed, the project was completed on time and on budget. VTCA represents contractors, aggregate producers, engineers and suppliers who design, build and maintain the Commonwealths transportation infrastructure. The prestigious awards were presented on April 12, 2007 during the VTCA Spring Conference in Roanoke, Virginia.
